Alice the Jail Bird Review

Alice the Jail Bird Review

Alice the Jail Bird is a 1925 animated short film from the Alice Comedies series. It’s a very good short.

Alice and Julius somehow end up in prison and they try to break out of it. This short is hilariously over-the-top and cartoony, but mostly in a good way. Yes, there is no logic behind any of this, but taking the action to such fantastical realms appealed to me as in animation anything can be possible after all.

Julius making a ladder out of his tail to help Alice break out of prison is just one of many such scenes of mayhem and in a way superheroics. The animation is inventive and polished while it was nice seeing Alice finally in a prolonged role. The movie is a mess of course in terms of editing and pacing, but at least the character moments are great and the action is a lot of fun.

Alice the Jail Bird is a messy short, but one that is undeniably appealing in its lack of logic and very cartoony scenarios.

My Rating – 3.8
