Donald’s Cousin Gus Review

Donald’s Cousin Gus Review

Donald’s Cousin Gus is a 1939 animated short film from the Donald Duck series. It is a pretty fun flick.

Donald is visited by his cousin Gus, who has a hearty appetite and proceeds to eat all of Donald’s food. My main issue with this movie is its familiar premise. We’ve seen similar plots before in cartoons. The film is also shorter than your average Donald Duck short while lacking in truly memorable of hilarious gags.

With that being said, the animation is as polished as always and Gus is a solid one-off character. He is amusingly a goose and his design and the fact that he is mute made him quite interesting, especially the sounds that he made and the gadgets that he had. Donald’s frustrations led to a couple of very funny scenes as the duck would try to retain his food to no avail. There are a couple of clever eating scenes here, particularly those that featured Gus eating in the form of playing an instrument.

Donald’s Cousin Gus is familiar in its premise, but very entertaining and featuring a solid one-off character in the form of Donald’s goose cousin Gus.

My Rating – 3.8
