Speedy Ghost to Town Review

Speedy Ghost to Town is a 1967 animated short film from the Merry Melodies series. It is another weak short.

Daffy Duck overhears Speedy Gonzales and another mouse talk about a hidden cheese storage area, thinking it is really gold they are talking about. This was the first movie to significantly reuse animation from previous shorts and even other studios. Hanna Barbera’s ‘The Flintstones’ was the main source of sound effects in particular. This all led to a really lazy movie.

There is one scene here that I liked. The gold scene. The dynamite gag did make me chuckle a bit and the cheese twist was also a fun one. The premise was solid overall, but the execution was mostly mediocre with the ending being weak and the first half being especially forgettable.

Speedy Ghost to Town is a weak Merry Melodies short with one solid scene, but the majority of it is quite mediocre.

My Rating – 3
