The Secret of Atlantis Review

The Secret of Atlantis Review

The Secret of Atlantis a 1954 Disney comic book written and drawn by Carl Barks. It is one of the more imaginative Uncle Scrooge comics.

Scrooge is after a very valuable coin that eventually leads him, Donald and the nephews to the underwater world of Atlantis itself. Yes, this particular story did not fully mash together as the first half is very different from the second one. It’s also quite familiar in its initial setup. But the second half is so fun and so imaginative that it ultimately really worked.

The highlight here was the illustration work that was both gorgeous and delightfully detailed and colorful. Atlantis featured memorable character designs for its people and it’s a beautifully realized setting all-around. The imagination was simply leaping off the pages here. The ending was a bit rushed, but satisfactory nonetheless. Donald’s frustrations with his uncle were quite amusing whereas Scrooge’s obsession was as hilarious as ever.

The Secret of Atlantis is gorgeously illustrated and delightfully imaginative, benefitting strongly from its unique fantastical elements.

My Rating – 4.2
