Alice’s Spooky Adventure is a 1924 animated short film from the Alice Comedies series. It’s a flawed short.

Alice goes into a haunted house where she falls and ends up in a dream where she is surrounded by spirits. My main issue with this movie is that it’s shorter than the previous films in the series, thus it felt rather rushed. The introduction of a cat in the second half was also problematic as it felt like an unnecessary detour.

What worked here was the animation that was once again dazzling and very innovative for the time. The house was detailed and unique while the spirits also looked interesting in their authentic designs. The beginning of the movie is quite intriguing, but the second half failed to make proper use of its fantastic setup.

Alice’s Spooky Adventure is an uneven entry in the series that has a great setup, but rather problematic and rushed execution.
