Beach Picnic Review

Beach Picnic Review

Beach Picnic is a 1939 animated short film from the Donald Duck series. It is a pretty forgettable flick.

Donald plays pranks on Pluto at the beach. Later they both have problems with ants at their picnic. This is a rare movie that paired these two iconic characters and I find them to not be a good fit to be honest. Donald makes fun of poor Pluto to some amusing results, but the dog proves to be too easy of a target for the mischievous duck.

The movie is well animated, charming and featuring Pluto at some of his most endearing. His reactions to the pranks were quite funny. Donald is surprisingly evil in those moments. My issue here lies in the second half that featured gags that were not just uninteresting, but mostly rehashed from previous cartoons. The ending was particularly disappointing.

Beach Picnic has a solid first half and an endearing Pluto, but a weak second half and a disappointing ending. This cartoon pairing is not the greatest fodder for comedy.

My Rating – 3.5
