Alice’s Orphan Review

Alice’s Orphan Review

Alice’s Orphan is a 1926 animated short film from the Alice Comedies series. It’s a fine short.

Julius saves and adopts a young kitten, but he is too mischievous. He creates hell for Julius. This is your standard cartoon trope of an orphan kid who misbehaves. The storyline is thus tiresome and predictable throughout. Alice is here, but only for a brief second. It is entirely Julius’s cartoon.

And he is quite memorable here, but that kitten is overly typical and their dynamic is familiar as well. Still, the animation is strong, the intertitles were well utilized and the second half produced a couple of very amusing scenarios. It’s a quicker than usual Alice Comedies flick, so it goes down quite easily.

Alice’s Orphan has a very familiar trope in it, but the execution is brisk and fun, leading to a solid entry in the series.

My Rating – 3.5
