Wind Review

Wind Review

Wind is a 2019 animated short film and another movie coming from Pixar’s program called SparkShorts.

It is about a grandmother and her grandson trying to escape an endless chasm. The movie is visually arresting and truly something special when it comes to its beautifully realized setting. The space-like chasm felt eerie, otherworldly and dangerous while the score is also evocative and powerful. The atmosphere is so amazing that it elevated this otherwise problematic movie.

It’s troublesome because like most other shorts in this series it is emotionally manipulative. Yes, it was moving as the two share a wonderful connection, but there was no need whatsoever for grandma to sacrifice herself. That felt very much fabricated to wring as much drama and tragedy as possible.

Pixar really needs to stop emotionally manipulating audiences. Wind is technically arresting and atmospheric, but way too tragic in its ending.

My Rating – 3.7
