Ciao Alberto is a 2021 animated short film. It is a Pixar short based on ‘Luca’.

While Luca is away at school, his friend Alberto works for his mentor whom he tries to impress. The two eventually form a father-son bond. This is the rare Pixar short that accompanied its feature film and succeeded at replicating its success. It felt like Pixar throughout in its high emotions and great messaging. The animation is lovely and smooth while the score is also pretty good.

I missed Luca and the fantastical elements in this short, but the relationship between Alberto and Massimo was so well developed. It was a beautiful ode to adoptive parents and the final embrace was so touching. Alberto is as energetic as ever while his soon to be father is a mysterious, but kind presence. The movie is all about fatherhood and how sons want to prove themselves to their fathers.

Ciao Alberto is a wonderful Pixar short that functions as a great ode to adoptive parents. The central relationship is quite moving.
