Burrow Review

Burrow is a 2020 animated short film from Pixar. It’s the best movie coming from SparkShorts so far.

It is about a cute rabbit who is embarrassed about the simplistic drawing of her imagined home, so she digs deeper and deeper until she causes a flood. Eventually, the animals save the day and help her build a home together. This flick surprised me how utterly adorable it is. The rabbit in question is one of the cutest creatures that I have ever seen in animation. Her facial expressions are immensely cute and she is so wonderful that you have to root for her happiness.

Burrow is also much more than just cute. It is also deeper than it looks. Following her integration into society was wonderful and although the ending was overly romanticized, it worked in the context of this cartoon and it was simply beautiful. The animation is incredibly gorgeous in its very old-fashioned drawing approach while the imagination is off the roof, especially in all the different animals’ holes/homes. The score by Mozart gives the movie a timeless quality too.

Burrow is not only gorgeously animated and wonderfully scored, it’s also a beautiful tale so well told and populated by lovable characters.

My Rating – 4.5
