Loop Review

Loop Review

Loop is a 2020 animated short film from Pixar. It’s another movie coming from SparkShorts.

It focuses on a chatty boy and a non-verbal girl, learning to understand each other. By now, the SparkShorts formula has really started to show – extreme emotion and representation. This one is another story about somebody belonging on the autism spectrum, and it was definitely admirable in the portrayal of the girl, but overall it felt too manipulative emotionally.

The boat setting was well realized and I particularly liked the role of the reeds. However, the movie was overly limited in scope and ambition. The animation is excellent and I liked the interactions between the boy and the girl, but the film should have been even more sophisticated having in mind that it tried to deal with such a serious subject.

Loop is admirable in its serious subject matter and well animated, but overly limited in scope and not that sophisticated.

My Rating – 3.7
