Wild Wife ReviewWild Wife Review

Wild Wife is a 1954 animated short film from the Merry Melodies series. It is a solid short.

A strained housewife is criticized by her male-chauvinist husband, who remarks that she doesn’t make effective use of her time during the day and insinuates that she doesn’t finish her chores because of laziness. Then, she explains everything that she did during that day, and how many troubles she’s had. It’s a strong premise solidly executed.

I found its cartoony ending oddly juxtaposed with the rest of the short, though mostly the film is fun and charming. The animation is very strong and the voice acting is great. The film has a great feminist message, but it did feel quaint and disconnected from all other 50s Warner Bros. shorts as it belongs more to the previous decades of output.

Wild Wife is certainly odd, but its feminist message is to be respected. It’s charming and solid overall.

My Rating – 3.7
