War and Pieces Review

War and Pieces Review

War and Pieces is a 1964 animated short film from the Looney Tunes series. It is a mostly forgettable short.

Wile E. Coyote tries to catch the Road Runner with a grenade, a bow, a rope, invisible paint, a gun disguised as a peep show, and a rocket that tunnels him through the Earth to arrive in China, where a Chinese Road Runner greets him. That ending was the only truly memorable moment in this short that was otherwise quite forgettable and standard. The Eastern setting was refreshing to witness, and although odd, this sequence ultimately worked.

That gag with the fish was also funny and charming, but the rest of the short was all far from memorable. Most of the gags were too familiar and not all that exciting. The animation is also weak and the video that I saw of the film was of very poor quality, which was unfortunate. It’s a shame that this one did not get a proper release.

War and Pieces has a very forgettable first half, but at least the final section was original and different.

My Rating – 3.6
