The Iceman Ducketh Review

The Iceman Ducketh Review

The Iceman Ducketh is a 1964 animated short film from the Looney Tunes series. It is a very strong cartoon.

When Daffy hears that the Klondike trading post is paying good money for furs, Bugs’ pelt becomes endangered. Admittedly, Bugs being chased for his fur had by this point become done to death, but rarely with Daffy as the perpetrator and that was refreshing. The beginning is cozy and instantly inviting while that ending is very funny and memorable.

The first half lacks the truly unforgettable action set pieces and I would say that Bugs isn’t particularly funny in this short, but Daffy stole the show. Some of his lines were absolutely hilarious with the highlight being the one where he plain says that he despises the rabbit. The gags set in snow were terrific, especially the bear ones and the snowball set pieces. The animation is simply gorgeous and quite detailed in its backgrounds. It’s a shame that this was the last Bugs/Daffy outing as they were always so much fun together.

The Iceman Ducketh is an excellent Bugs/Daffy short that benefits from polished animation, a couple of great set pieces and a terrific finale.

My Rating – 4.2
