Twenty Something Review

Twenty Something Review

Twenty Something is a 2021 animated short film that is the ninth entry in the SparkShorts series. It’s only solid.

The film focuses on Gia who deals with the insecurities of being a 21-year-old by personifying her emotions in the form of three children in a trench coat. My issue with this movie is that it was pretty much taken from this one character in ‘BoJack Horseman’ that is composed of kids in a trench coat. Thus, the film is far from original, but it is a sweet watch regardless.

The best part about it is the message about growing up and just how hard it is to combat these insecurities. The kids are so endearing and a lot of fun while that second act was entertaining, even if a bit too silly. The first and third acts are both aiming for a lot of emotion that contrasted the silliness solidly. The animation is classically hand-drawn and so good. The score is too modern, but serviceable.

Twenty Something is one of the more inferior SparkShorts movies. Yes, it’s sweet and it looks great, but it’s also familiar in plot and far from memorable.

My Rating – 3.8
