The Dixie Fryer Review

The Dixie Fryer Review

The Dixie Fryer is a 1960 animated short film from the Looney Tunes series. It is a solid, fun cartoon.

Foghorn Leghorn travels to the deep south to enjoy the sun, but must contend with two chicken hawks, Pappy and Elvis, who want to roast him for dinner. This is the last ever appearance of these two redneck birds and I am definitely sad to see them go as their dialogue was always very funny, especially their Southern accents. Here, they are terrific and they mashed deftly with Foghorn himself.

It’s a charming movie with a particularly stellar opening that sees Foghorn land in the gorgeous south ready to enjoy himself. The first interaction between him and the chicken hawks was great, but I do wish that the gags were stronger, especially the entire tornado sequence that was overall not as fun or as memorable as the movie thinks it is. But the ending itself was surely a lot of fun. The animation is also gorgeous here with particularly beautiful background work.

The Dixie Fryer is a solid, albeit uneven Foghorn Leghorn short that benefits from stellar animation and a truly excellent first half.

My Rating – 3.9
