From Hare to Heir Review

From Hare to Heir is a 1960 animated short film from the Merry Melodies series. It is a terrific entry.

Sam, the Duke of Yosemite, will inherit one million pounds if he can keep his temper in check. The problem is that he has to endure Bugs Bunny as his house guest. In this short, I wanted more of the backstory behind both characters, especially Sam, who here is possibly rich. With that being said, the execution of its great premise is mostly excellent and the cartoon is so much fun.

The ending itself needed to have been more memorable, but the rest of the short consists of many excellent gags. The one with the hole is very well realized while the highlights were all the moments where Sam got his sum redacted due to him losing temper constantly. How Bugs made him angry was continuously inventive and funny while the story makes great use of Yosemite Sam’s characteristic angry outbursts.

From Hare to Heir is a very good short that makes great use of Yosemite Sam’s anger issues through many well realized gags.
