Musical Moments from Chopin Review

Musical Moments from Chopin is a 1946 animated short film from the Andy Panda series. It is a pretty solid Oscar nominee.

Andy Panda performs Chopin on piano, but there is also Woody Woodpecker playing along in what is a smaller, but memorable role for sure. The classical music here is of course beautiful and the piano scenes are sweet, but the real stars are the other animals behind the scenes.

Yes, the cutaways include the animals doing their goofy gags and most of these scenes were pleasantly cartoony, thus contrasting so well the more elegant centerpiece with the piano music. It’s all done very well in terms of editing, wonderful animation and great scoring, but it pales in comparison to ‘The Cat Concerto’. That one was released during this period and it was much more memorable and more energetic overall.

Musical Moments from Chopin is a pretty charming classical music cartoon filled with some solid cutaway gags and strong animation.

My Rating – 4
