Feast Review

Feast is a 2014 Disney Oscar winning animated short film that is one of the best animated shorts of all time.

Feast presents a dog’s relationship with humans through his love of food. Literally, love comes from the food when it comes to our favorite canines which is so truthfully shown here. When his owner gets a vegan girlfriend, he is annoyed by all the vegetables that he gets but eventually when she leaves him, he goes to get her to come back. Needless to say, that ending plays at the heartstrings and I almost cried how moved I was. It is certainly highly emotional, but in a good way, not in a manipulative manner. It is a film that every dog owner should thus watch as it showcases just how valuable they are to us.

Now Feast is obviously overly anthropomorphized, but I still absolutely adored Winston and I’d even go so far to call him one of the best animated dogs in film history. He’s simply wonderful and I admired how they portrayed him as obsessed with food while also loving his owners to the fullest extent. The film is pretty realistic and thus even more moving. The humans are rarely portrayed fully as influenced by ‘Lady and the Tramp’ and I loved that. The film’s attention to detail and its food parallels to current psychological state of mind are powerful and they ring true. The film is the next one from Disney after ‘Paperman’ to mix traditional and CGI animation and it truly is stunning as the character design is magnificent and the backgrounds are lovely as is the inviting food. The score’s also superb.

Feast is a beautifully animated and incredibly moving portrait of dog’s relationship with humans and an animated masterpiece by all means.
