The Danish Poet ReviewThe Danish Poet Review

The Danish Poet is a 2006 Norwegian Oscar winning animated short film that is a very interesting short thematically speaking.

Torill Kove directed this film so well and I wish that it was biographical as it would have been more impactful that way. But still this is a very interesting story of how an entire swing of different situations, coincidences, paths and circumstances can influence someone else’s life and literally lead to life as this film showcases the birth of a person through a very clear but unexpected path of events.

The Danish Poet is well animated and charming in its simplistic animation, but the character design is thoroughly unappealing. Liv Ullman’s narration is solid but excessive. The score is definitely very strong and moving. The movie is long, but it doesn’t feel long as its fifteen minutes are very involving as I like this particular theme quite a bit and it was very well explored. It did deserve its Academy Award in my opinion.

The Danish Poet definitely has its flaws, but it is mostly a fascinating tale with an interesting theme very well explored.

My Rating – 4.1
