Ski for Two Review

Ski for Two is a 1944 animated short film from the Woody Woodpecker series. It is a terrific short.

Woody goes to a Swiss lodge, but Wally Walrus won’t let him in. He then dons a Santa Clause costume in order to get in. This is a very nostalgic movie for me as I remember seeing it as a kid a couple of times. But it holds up watching it is an adult too. Oh boy, does it hold up! It’s one of the best Woody Woodpecker shorts released up until this point. The movie is so good that it felt rushed in its short runtime. Wally also needed more screen time.

But the dynamic between the two characters was fantastic and they are pretty much equals, which I really appreciated. The animation is stellar with great character designs and gorgeous montane vistas. The score is lovely and it utilized its operatic roots so well. The highlight is that skiing scene – that was epic and so much fun. The moments in the lodge were also entertaining and Woody costumed as Santa produced amusing results.

Ski for Two is one of the better Woody Woodpecker shorts thanks to strong animation, fantastic characterization and a great score.

My Rating – 4.3
