Alice’s Tin Pony Review

Alice’s Tin Pony Review

Alice’s Tin Pony is a 1925 animated short film from the Alice Comedies series. It’s a solid short.

Alice and Julius are driving a train, which is carrying a large payroll. Pete the Bear and his gang find out about it and devise a plan to rob the train. This is a very messy short that tries to be both an adventure comedy and a western crime flick in a way, succeeding only sporadically at both. There is too much sexism present in the last act where a girl is slapped for a terrible reason and that entire section felt very odd, but the first half was more effective.

The scenes on the train are quite amusing and Julius was memorable here. The animation is also solid and the setting is well utilized. I just wish that Alice returns to being at least a co-protagonist as this period saw her being too undermined and underutilized.

Alice’s Tin Pony is an amusing short with a solidly utilized setting, but its second half is problematic and messy.

My Rating – 3.5
