Alice Loses Out Review

Alice Loses Out Review

Alice Loses Out is a 1925 animated short film from the Alice Comedies series. It’s a solid short.

Julius acts as a barber and manicurist in a hotel in this short movie that once again fails to make proper use of Alice herself. She is only there in a couple of moments and that’s pretty much it. The short is also weakly animated and the print that I watched on YouTube had terrible quality.

What this flick does well is the humor. I actually found it to be quite strong as Julius irritated this hotel guest to no end, most of the scenarios being very amusing. The highlight was Julius donning drag and acting like a woman. That was hilarious. The movie is simplistic and familiar in premise, but its execution is solid.

Alice Loses Out is technically inferior and its plot is simple, but the humor is quite strong and some gags are very amusing. Julius had by now pretty much become the captain of this ship.

My Rating – 3.6
