Alice at the Rodeo Review

Alice at the Rodeo is a 1927 animated short film from the Alice Comedies series. It’s a solid entry.

Julius wins a bronc-riding contest at the rodeo. However, Pete steals his prize money, so Julius must go after him to get it back. Alice is almost absent here, but Pete is in this movie, though with a somewhat changed design. Julius is the star per usual and he stole the movie for me along with that funny horse.

The highlight is the scene where the horse refuses to be mounted by Julius. That gag worked throughout that entire scene and it made the rest of the short rather uneventful and dull in comparison. But the animation is so good here and very polished that it was pleasing to watch for the most part albeit not riveting.

Alice at the Rodeo is a solid Alice Comedies short that benefits from a terrific gag with the horse and quite polished animation.

My Rating – 3.5
