Alice and the Dog Catcher Review

Alice and the Dog Catcher is a 1924 animated short film from the Alice Comedies series. It’s a weak short.

Alice presides over a secret club which proposes to rid the town of dog catchers and free the dogs. This movie continued the downward quality of Alice Comedies during this period. Why they had the need to put a reference to KKK in a children’s flick is beyond me. This was not only questionable, but downright repulsive.

If you put that aside, the movie itself is just weak. It looks good as always and it has its charming moments with the kids trying to help the dogs. That message was great for children, but the gags were uninspired and the movie failed to properly deal with animated segments that were once again the inferior of the two.

Alice and the Dog Catcher had some questionable imagery and a weak plot. It had a great message about the need to help dogs, but the execution was poor.

My Rating – 3.2
