Alice the Peacemaker Review

Alice the Peacemaker Review

Alice the Peacemaker is a 1924 animated short film from the Alice Comedies series. It’s a solid short.

Alice tries to make two rival newsboys friends by telling them a story of a cat and a mouse whose constant battlings lead to being hunted by the police, when they learned to cooperate. This was a different short for this series that up until this point has relied way too heavily on live-action instead of animation. Here, animated segments take up the majority of screen time, which was refreshing.

While still not great, those scenes worked and were quite a lot of fun. The mouse and the cat battling was amusing and there were some gags that were quite clever and amusing here. The visuals were terrific for the time and the action was so well executed. Alice herself was sidelined and her scenes in the beginning and ending were lackluster, but the cartoon sequences were very strong.

Alice the Peacemaker has its issues, but the focus on animated instead of live-action segments was a welcome change in pace here.

My Rating – 3.7
