You’re Not Built That Way Review

You’re Not Built That Way is a 1936 animated short film from the Betty Boop series. It is a very cute cartoon.

Pudgy the pup tries to emulate a tough bulldog, but Betty Boop sings him the error of his ways. This is yet another Betty Boop short where she was sidelined, but she did get to sing a cute song and have an endearing moment or two with her dog Pudgy, who is the real star of this short.

Pudgy emulating this tough bulldog was one gag extended for the duration of the entire short, but it mostly made for a very entertaining and charming flick. The highlight was the meat store sequence that was so well executed throughout. The animation was also stellar with the multiplane camera being used quite often and to great effect.

You’re Not Built That Way has solid animation and it’s such a charming and cute flick, though its plot is quite thin.

My Rating – 3.5
