Tweet and Sour Review

Tweet and Sour is a 1956 animated short from the Looney Tunes series. It is a solid, but far from great entry.

Granny is out of the house and she warns Sylvester that if anything happens to Tweety, she will make him into violin strings. Sam Cat then arrives and attempts to eat the bird, but Sylvester is there to stop him. That is to no avail, though, as Granny still is angry at the end. Yes, that ending was typical and this short is so different for featuring this new dynamic that I would have preferred a happier ending in this particular instance.

There are some very strong chases here that somewhat reminded me of the great action scenes of Tom and Jerry, though inferior a bit. Sam Cat is very well realized and the chicken coop scene was the funniest. The animation is fine and Tweety is also solid. But Sylvester is the star here in an unusual role for him.

Tweet and Sour has a weaker ending, but a solid premise well executed. Sylvester is the star this time around.

My Rating – 3.6
