To Itch His Own Review

To Itch His Own Review

To Itch His Own is a 1958 animated short film from the Merry Melodies series. It is a forgettable cartoon.

Mighty Angelo the Flea takes a vacation on a dog in the country. The muscular insect becomes the little mutt’s protector when he is bullied by Butcher the bulldog. This is one of the many flea-oriented cartoons that lacks originality and is never authentic in anything that it does.

The animation is admittedly very nice and charming. The dog is endearing and the flea is somewhat fun. But the gags are rather sparse in this entry while the movie is too slow and it never quite takes off as it lacks energy in its execution. It is one of those Merry Melodies that are about forgettable one-off characters and stories.

To Itch His Own has solid animation, but everything else is forgettable and rather subpar.

My Rating – 3.3
