The Swing School Review

The Swing School Review

The Swing School is a 1938 animated short film from the Betty Boop series. It is a pretty silly, but funny short.

At Betty Boop’s Music School for Animals, Pudgy the dog doesn’t do so well, but puppy love triumphs. This is another Pudgy short where the dog struggles with something, but this time around it was Betty who was terrible toward him and the pup himself did nothing wrong. How she treated him badly just for not being a good singer was not a good look for her.

Pudgy was so adorable in this movie and very easy to root for. The ending with the girlfriend was typical and expected, but it did lead to that infectiously dynamic and fun tap dance sequence that stole the show. The animation is pretty good and the score is truly phenomenal, making up quite a bit for the slim plot and very silly premise of animals singing in class.

The Swing School is a pretty solid Betty Boop short that is silly, but rather entertaining and funny.

My Rating – 3.6
