The Million Hare Review

The Million Hare Review

The Million Hare is a 1963 animated short film from the Looney Tunes series. It is a pretty strong entry in the series.

Daffy and Bugs hear on TV that they are the contestants for the million dollar prize, so they both race to the studio to get the money. Eventually, in what is a glorious twist Daffy donors the money to Bugs because he thought at first that the boxes were empty. That ending was hilarious and perfect for this type of story. Daffy literally ending up being a jackass was also a nice touch.

What about the rest of the flick? Well, it’s not as strong, but it has its solid moments. The highlight is Bugs’ reminder to the audience that Daffy is a duck and that he should know how to both fly and swim. The fact that he never learns this is very funny and so is the meta commentary as through this moment the series criticized itself for never giving him these abilities. The beginning with television watching was also wonderful and it’s great seeing these two be friends, at least at first. The animation is also great, though some of the action in the second act could have been more memorable.

The Million Hare is a terrific Bugs Bunny/ Daffy Duck cartoon that benefits from a great premise well executed for laughs with the highlight being its hilarious ending.

My Rating – 4.2
