Fast Buck Duck Review

Fast Buck Duck Review

Fast Buck Duck is a 1963 animated short film from the Merry Melodies series. It is a pretty funny cartoon.

Daffy Duck, in his flat in the midst of a junkyard, reads that a millionaire seeks a loyal, entertaining, and trustworthy boon companion. The premise behind this short is a familiar but solid one. The problem lies with the execution as most of the movie resorts to your standard narrative of trying to outwit the dog to get to the house.

Some of those scenes were pretty good, but hardly any were inventive or original in ideas. Daffy is great and very funny as always, but the bulldog himself is quite forgettable and he should have been better developed. The highlight of this short is definitely that ending. In a terrific twist it is revealed that Daffy will be a companion to the dog, which was unexpected and quite funny. I wish the rest of the film were as strong or as clever.

Fast Buck Duck has a clever ending and solid Daffy, but most of the short resorts to your standard outwitting a dog narrative that lacked originality.

My Rating – 3.6
