The Male Man Review

The Male Man is a 1931 animated short film from the Talkartoons series.

This cartoon centers on Bimbo who delivers and works on mail. This is one of those nightmarish shorts in the Talkartoons series that obviously attempted to replicate the horror atmosphere of ‘Swing Your Sinners!’, but is nowhere near that level of quality or ingenuity. The movie has a somewhat forgettable first half, but a striking second half.

The highlight is the cult scene. That one was so memorable and very well animated. The third act of the flick is definitely inspired in its manic and creepy tone. Bimbo is also quite solid here, though I wished for a stronger storyline overall. The animation and score were both pretty strong albeit not perfect.

The Male Man benefits from an excellent horror atmosphere to it. The first half is standard, but the second half is quite strong.
