The Jet Cage Review

The Jet Cage Review

The Jet Cage is a 1962 animated short film from the Looney Tunes series. It is a pretty solid, but flawed cartoon.

Granny buys Tweety a flying bird cage in this cartoon that features such a tremendous, original premise, but a very disappointing execution of said premise. The beginning was great. It was a promising setup that really worked. The animation is also stellar.

Another highlight is Tweety whose lines of dialogue are reliably amusing and the fact that the cage mimics military planes was quite smart and funny. The problem here lies in that second half where unfortunately most of the action set pieces failed to make use of this strong concept. Sylvester is forgettable this time around and the action is uninteresting. In structure, they tried to emulate the Road Runner series, but with decidedly mixed results.

The Jet Cage is very well animated and its concept is terrific, but the execution of it left a lot to be desired when all is said and done.

My Rating – 3.8
