The Duxorcist Review

The Duxorcist Review

The Duxorcist is a 1987 animated short film from the Looney Tunes series. It is a terrific short.

Daffy is a professional paranormal investigator in this short. He comes to help a possessed damsel in distress. This was the first Looney Tunes short released in the modern post-1970 era. I was taken aback by the quality of this movie. It isn’t quite as amazing as the cream of the crop of this series, which were the fifties, but it is much closer to that quality than it is to the mediocre late 60s shorts. The premise is a particularly strong one and this is one of the creepiest and most supernatural shorts in the series’ history. It must be downright scary for children.

The damsel is memorably designed as a female duck and the two have an amusing dynamic. The poltergeists are more cute than scary, but the possession sequences were so well executed and imagined with the house acting creepy itself being a great touch. The animation is gorgeous, polished and featuring wonderfully detailed backgrounds. Daffy is so good here, but the short needed more humor overall and this premise could have been used for even more memorable cartoon mayhem.

The Duxorcist is a surprisingly strong late Looney Tunes short that benefits from excellent animation and an effective horror atmosphere to it.

My Rating – 4.2
