Strangled Eggs Review

Strangled Eggs Review

Strangled Eggs is a 1961 animated short film from the Merry Melodies series. It is a solid, if not great short.

Foghorn Leghorn tries to teach Henery Hawk how to be a chicken, but he actually is trying to get rid of him. What worked in this short is the premise. It was different than usual in its treatment of Henery and I really liked Miss Prissy’s role in the story, though she got brushed aside in the second half.

My main problem with this cartoon is that it’s never as funny as you’d expect from the greatness that is Foghorn Leghorn. Henery is originally used, but that different approach led to the diminished humor coming from him. With that being said, the animation is stellar and the beginning and ending are terrific. I just wish the mid section was stronger.

Strangled Eggs is original in its premise and very well written, but it needed better humor and more energy in its execution overall.

My Rating – 4
