Birds of a Father Review

Birds of a Father Review

Birds of a Father is a 1961 animated short film from the Looney Tunes series. It is an okay cartoon.

When Sylvester finds out that his son Junior is best friends with a bird, he tries to teach him the ropes of being a true cat. My problem with this short is that it doesn’t have Hippety Hopper in it. The dynamic between these two cats is best when there is Hippety in there to spice things up. This way, the movie felt empty in that uninteresting bird addition.

With that being said, it’s still so much fun and very endearing seeing Sylvester’s attempts at parenting go so awry. The boy did not get much to do here, but Sylvester is his reliably enjoyable self and some of his lines here are quite amusing. The animation is also very strong and the whole flick is charmingly lightweight and sweet.

Birds of a Father is endearing and very charming, but it needed a better storyline overall.

My Rating – 3.5
