Steal Wool Review

Steal Wool Review

Steal Wool is a 1957 animated short film from the Looney Tunes series. It is another terrific entry in this highly underrated series.

Ralph Wolf and Sam Sheepdog are back and I just love these guys. The fact that they remind me only slightly of Wile E. Coyote and Road Runner despite the initial familiarity only goes to show the brilliance of this pairing and how authentic this dynamic is. Although the short has a couple of been there, done that action scenes, most are excellent and superbly executed.

The firecracker scene is brilliantly crafted while the final slingshot attempt went in unexpected directions and was simply hilarious. The best parts of the movie are of course the beginning and the ending. This is where we see once again that these two are colleagues in this abstract, strange “job” that they recreate every single day. The fact that the wolf now needs a vacation and gets it from the compassionate dog who just beat him senseless was hysterical.

Steal Wool is another stellar Ralph Wolf and Sam Sheepdog installment. The animation is great and the gags are mostly stupendous.

My Rating – 4.2
