Boston Quackie Review

Boston Quackie Review

Boston Quackie is a 1957 animated short film from the Looney Tunes series. It is a terrific entry in the series.

Daffy Duck is an American agent in Paris assigned to guard the valuable secret contents of a briefcase. A man in a green hat steals the briefcase and leads Daffy on a chase aboard the Cloak and Dagger Express. This cartoon was clearly an attempt to parody spy movies, and a mostly successful one at that. Although the movie stylishly recreated the mood and suspense of this genre, the gags came few and far in between, which was somewhat disappointing to me.

Still, the gags that we got were uniformly excellent, especially the one with the green hat. That entire exchange was fantastic. The action scene in the finale was also superbly executed. The animation is beautiful and the attention to detail is impressive. The highlight of the short surely is Daffy. It’s funny how he was the best fit for these superhero or detective roles, and the mixture of acting tough and being somewhat dumb and goofy made this role a winning formula.

Boston Quackie is stylish and beautifully animated. Daffy is the highlight in this great parody of spy stories.

My Rating – 4.1
