Robin Hoodlum Review

Robin Hoodlum Review

Robin Hoodlum is a 1948 animated short film directed by John Hubley. It is a very charming Oscar nominee.

It follows Robin Hood as he escapes, through the efforts of his faithful followers, and they kidnap the Sheriff and the King to act as their servants. It is very interesting seeing this movie and how much of an influence it clearly must have been on Disney’s ‘Robin Hood’. The resemblances are uncanny, especially in the frantic action and animal characters.

The problem here is that this is a short movie, so the characters ended up being severely underdeveloped due to that limit in length. The animation is absolutely gorgeous with meticulous attention to detail and strong designs for the characters, but the excessive action robbed the movie of its impact as it never took a breather, though the action is fun for sure. It’s a competent movie that could have used a longer runtime.

Robin Hoodlum is a polished, gorgeously animated flick that features fun action, but an overly frenetic pace.

My Rating – 3.9
