Riley’s First Date Review

Riley’s First Date is a 2015 animated short film. It is a Pixar short based on ‘Inside Out’.

Riley, now 12, who is hanging out with her parents at home when potential trouble comes knocking. Mom’s and dad’s emotions find themselves forced to deal with Riley going on her first “date.” This is a very fun and funny movie that is not as great as the original feature, but it takes all the elements of that movie and throws them into one particular situation that must be super relatable for all parents out there.

This is the main reason why these Pixar shorts work as well as they do – they are not continuations of the story, but just a part of the original one. This one fits so well with the first movie and is a great accompaniment to it. It’s overly short and somewhat simple in its premise, but they executed this situation so well and the highlight were the heightened emotions of the personified emotions inside the parents’ heads. They were so funny here.

Riley’s First Date is a simple, but very good short that executes its premise so well and is fun and funny throughout.
