Rabbit Romeo Review

Rabbit Romeo Review

Rabbit Romeo is a 1957 animated short film from the Merry Melodies series. It is an okay Bugs Bunny entry.

The problem with this short is that it’s one of those cartoons where the protagonist is being chased by a crazy female. I do not particularly gravitate toward this type of premise, and even though here it was quite well executed, most of it wasn’t all that great. The fact that Elmer actually caught the rabbit successfully and he went with him peacefully was also odd and only done for the purpose of this story.

That female rabbit was annoying more than funny and the Slobovian references here were xenophobic instead of amusing as they had been in previous shorts. Rabbit Romeo has at least a great Bugs as he is so good here and very funny while Elmer is also pretty good in a different role for him. The ending was obvious, but the final line by Bugs was terrific and quite memorable.

Rabbit Romeo is very well animated and it has a great final line of dialogue, but the obsessed female rabbit plot was tiresome this time around.

My Rating – 3.6
