Quack Shot Review

Quack Shot is a 1954 animated short film from the Merry Melodies series. It is a solid, but not great short.

Daffy tries to prevent Elmer from shooting other ducks. Those attempts usually backfire at Daffy himself. Needless to say, this short was quite odd. Why would Daffy of all people care about others? That felt implausible and not in line for the character. The ending was also very unfunny with the fish repeating the same line from the beginning not having as much of a comedic impact as the movie thinks it has.

Still though, Quack Shot is mostly pretty good. The second act is where the film shines the most with a lot of interesting action scenes with the explosives moment being the most amusing one. The short is also superbly animated with the swamp being so cozy and wonderful. Elmer is by far the best utilized character this time around with some very good lines of dialogue too.

Quack Shot is odd in terms of Daffy’s characterization, but it does have its very entertaining moments and strong animation.

My Rating – 3.8
