Portrait of the Artist as a Young Bunny Review

Portrait of the Artist as a Young Bunny a 1980 animated short film from the Looney Tunes series.

In this very odd short, Bugs Bunny has flashbacks to his youth where  his nemesis was the young Elmer Fudd. This movie tried that baby cartoon formula where they try to cash in on the cutesy factor, but they failed miserably. It is endearing and cute, but only in the beginning as you grow out of it pretty quickly.

Bugs is very fun here and his child persona is also quite amusing. I liked those Wile E. Coyote scenes as they were entertaining, but they were also needlessly incorporated into this short, making for a haphazard movie. There is also the issue of animation that is here very cheap, choppy and simply terrible.

Portrait of the Artist as a Young Bunny has its amusing and cute moments, but for the most part it’s a very odd, badly animated and horribly structured movie that simply did not work.

My Rating – 3.2
