Musical Mountaineers Review

Musical Mountaineers Review

Musical Mountaineers is a 1939 animated short film from the Betty Boop series. It is a pretty solid cartoon.

Betty Boop runs out of gas in Feud County, and wins over the initially hostile hillbillies with her dancing. This was the second cartoon starring the hillbillies after ‘Be Up to Date’. That one was a better movie, but Musical Mountaineers is still pretty good in its own right. It was, for one, great to finally see Betty take center stage in her own film.

The entire idea that she would win over these folks with her dancing was a ludicrous one and the movie has that overly nasty depictions of people from rural areas, but there is no denying that its score is electric and the dancing is vibrant. It’s one of the most entertaining music-oriented shorts in the history of the series, though the animation and humor left a lot to be desired.

Musical Mountaineers has terrific music and great dancing, leading to one of the more entertaining, though silly Betty Boop shorts.

My Rating – 3.7
