Mexican Mousepiece Review

Mexican Mousepiece Review

Mexican Mousepiece is a 1966 animated short film from the Merry Melodies series. It is a surprisingly solid short.

Daffy Duck, who has mice living in his house, decides on a way to dispose of them – to send them across the seas for starving cats over there to feast on. This movie surprised me as it was quite different than the Daffy/Speedy shorts that came before it. The premise was unique and ripe for laughs while the execution was middling, but at least some gags really worked.

The whole action with the box was a lot of fun. How Speedy fooled Daffy was very amusing and the other mice were also quite memorable here. Daffy was only okay and the animation was rather subpar, but at least the cartoon was reasonably diverting, which is more than I can say for most of the Warner Bros. shorts released during this period.

Mexican Mousepiece is an uneven, but mostly solid and underrated cartoon that benefits from a particularly interesting and different premise.

My Rating – 3.5
