Hot Dog Review

Hot Dog Review

Hot Dog is a 1930 animated short film from the Talkartoons series.

Bimbo is out stalking the ladies in his car when he is arrested by the police. Now he has to explain himself to the judge. This was the first Bimbo movie in the series and he was off to a good start as this is the first pretty good Talkartoons short that is very entertaining to watch. While the plot would be offensive to today’s audiences and the last act with the guitar was odd and unsatisfying, the rest of the movie was pretty fun and wild.

Bimbo stalking ladies was creepy, but also very funny. The scene in the car was hilarious and so well executed. The gags where shoes and hats changed shape into weapons or some other gadgets were the highlights as this is what Fleischers did best – physical humor and inventive animation. The animation is much more fluid and confident here while the music is also a lot of fun with the main number being very catchy.

Hot Dog is very well animated and scored with Bimbo being particularly memorable in his debut short, but the ending left a lot to be desired.

My Rating – 3.8
