Hare-Breadth Hurry Review

Hare-Breadth Hurry Review

Hare-Breadth Hurry is a 1963 animated short film from the Looney Tunes series. It is a very good cartoon.

This is a Bugs Bunny/Wile E. Coyote, and as such it’s quite good. I prefer the regular pairing of the coyote with the Road Runner, but this one also works when done right. The problem here is that the majority of gags are either familiar or uninspired. The first half was particularly uninteresting.

But then it gets much better in the much more confident second half. The highlight was the carrot gag that made no sense and was all the funnier for it. Bugs not eating a single carrot in the movie was unexpected and original. The finale was even better as the telephone joke was both perfectly setup and brilliantly executed. Bugs’ narration is fun throughout too.

Hare-Breadth Hurry starts off on a weaker note, but it ends with a terrific gag. Bugs is also excellent here.

My Rating – 4
