Hair-Raising Hare ReviewHair-Raising Hare Review

Hair-Raising Hare is a 1946 animated short film from the Merry Melodies series. It is a strong Bugs Bunny entry.

The bunny is in an evil scientist’s castle where he encounters a monster and the chase ensues throughout the majority of the cartoon. First, let’s get the negatives out of the way. Although I really liked this short, I did not love it as I found it particularly unwilling to go into more memorable and interesting places that the premise demanded as well as the setting. It could have been greater for sure.

But it’s still pretty good with Bugs being very amusing per usual and he steals the show throughout. I also found the Peter Lorre-inspired scientist quite solid and of course the creature himself is great. The atmosphere here is very strong as is the stellar animation and character designs. The nail-polishing sequence is the best one for me.

Hair-Raising Hare definitely is very well animated and quite atmospheric. Although not great, it’s still a pretty good, entertaining short.
