Go Away Stowaway Review

Go Away Stowaway Review

Go Away Stowaway is a 1967 animated short film from the Merry Melodies series. It is a somewhat tolerable short.

Daffy Duck, having enough of hearing Speedy Gonzales’s “La Cucaracha” tries to escape on a cruise ship. However, he is stalked by Speedy and tries to dispose of him, destroying the ship at the end and Speedy playing on his belly. This movie is better than expected actually. Yes, it still has inexplicable behavior from Speedy as why he would go to these great lengths to annoy Daffy is beyond me. It’s also very poorly animated and it felt cheap in its visuals.

But the final gag worked and a couple of other humorous moments were actually quite good. The execution of gags is better than usual for this period in Warner Bros. animation history and Daffy is actually quite funny here. Some of his dialogue and delivery are superb. I just wish that the plot was better as it was only serviceable.

Go Away Stowaway is very poorly animated and weakly plotted, but a couple of gags worked here and Daffy himself was memorable.

My Rating – 3.2
